How NBA champion Golden State Warriors could dominate Team USA roster  1 Month ago

Source:   USA Today

Team USA could showcase a roster strikingly similar to the team that hoists the Larry O'Brien trophy as NBA champions in next summer's Basketball World Cup in China and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr recently joining Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich's staff, it's now even more likely that an eye-popping five Warriors players could represent the U.S.

Barring injuries, Team USA could feature Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and new Warriors player DeMarcus Cousins. The two-time defending champs will look to win a third consecutive NBA title with Cousins in the fold this upcoming season.

"That would be awesome," Thompson told ESPN of the possibility of five Golden State players on the U.S. roster. "I don't know if that's ever happened in the history of the NBA, so that would be awesome. It gets me excited just thinking about it."

Thompson, Durant and Green were members of the 2016 gold medal team at the Rio Olympic Games.

Added Curry, who has represented USA but missed the Rio Games: "Obviously there's a lot to pick from. ...We'll see what happens."

While roster cuts for Team USA are never an easy process to understand, it'd be difficult to argue team chemistry as a reason for one of the Warriors players not making the roster given that, well, the chemistry will be intact from playing a whole 20118-19 season together.

USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo says that all five players have expressed interest in representing their country.

Kerr joked that in assessing the team members with Popovich: "I'm a tough critic. We'll see if they make the team or not."
