DHARAMSHALA: Police of Himachal and Punjab has joined hands to eradicate drug trade from the border area of this hill state. A joint action has been started on the border areas of Kangra district which shares borders with Pathankot and Hoshiarpur districts of Punjab. Mining and drug trade in these areas were on rife, even few cops were also attacked few days back after which more force was deployed at Kandwal police post of this district.
Superintendent of Police, Santosh Patial told TOI that cross border smuggling of drugs had become a hectic task for the police to nab the offenders due to border issues. It happened many times that police teams missed the catch after drug traders crossed the border.

“We have finally asked the police of Punjab in adjacent districts to cooperate us to end this menace to which they have agreed and a joint operation was started from today” said Patial.

Police would be raiding the restaurants, hotels and lodges other suspected places which were known as the center of this trade. This action would be taken in the jurisdiction of the police station of Nurpur and Indora constituencies.

It was learnt that a meeting was held of the SSP of Pathankot district with the state police after which this move was started. Top cops of both the states will formulate the strategy to nab the culprits of mining and drug trade.

The areas suspected were Nurpur, Kandwal, Dhangupeer, Indora and Damtal.

Police has refused to divulge the details of this operation that for how many days it will be carried on. But the development comes after few videos have gone viral of Himachal Pradesh showing youths of this hill state under influence of drugs. State police this year till May 31st have seized 229Kgs Charas, 4Kg opium and 263Kg of poppy husk.

Chief Minister Jairam Thakur had recently said that 27% of youths in sate were under influence of drugs. Tallest leader of the BJP, sitting MP Shanta Kumar have also given a call to make a strategy against this drug trade.
